Not too long ago, in my quest to find a new brunch spot, I passed a place that I have not been to since last year and saw the “open” sign lit up. Fancying myself a lover of creole/cajun cuisine, I did not have to drive any further. I began my brunch with the prerequisite Virgin Mary (designated driver commitment). I was asked if I liked it spicy and with Old Bay, and I dutifully replied yes to both. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.
The menu was quite extensive, incorporating the typical breakfast and lunch items, but with a decidedly New Orleans kick. Andouille and crawfish were featured in several offerings, along with shrimp and oysters. I spotted several sandwiches, as well, featuring the aforementioned goodies, including the obligatory Po’Boy and Muffaletta. After careful deliberation, I settled on a Cajun Omelette, which consisted of onions, peppers, crabmeat, andouille, and cheese, all rolled up inside a fluffy egg envelope, and covered with more of the same and topped with a Sriracha cream sauce. The omelette was of such substantial size that it barely contained the generous amount of filling. It was accompanied by pan fired potatoes and a biscuit. On my next visit, I will have to explore the various Big Easy Benedicts.
Not to leave the Big Easy without sampling some beignets, I took one for the team and ordered a portion. They come five to a bag and loaded with powdered sugar. To further guild the lily, you could order a side of voodoo sauce or caramel sauce. Personally, I recommend both, thereby saving you the trouble of having to make a decision.
The Big Easy on 60 has that southern style look and feel from the outside. The interior walls are covered with scenes from New Orleans and the background music is decidedly soft jazz. The interior is very spacious and there is an upstairs to accommodate private parties. There also is an outside patio which would be an ideal spot for a lazy, leisurely Sunday brunch, or to linger over a few cocktails on a warm summer evening.
So. . .if you want the taste and feel of New Orleans without the airfare, wander over to the Big Easy on 60.
